MARGAO, JULY 3
What was apprehended one year age has come true. Heavy overnight rains left the Margao subway near the Comba rail crossing inundated since morning, causing traffic bottlenecks in the area.
As water level in the subway rose gradually since morning, motorists avoided taking the subway, but there was no sign of any police presence to warn citizens of imminent dangers.
Incidentally, the district authorities were not seen around to caution the citizens, even as the flooding only indicated that measures adopted to drain the waters from the subway have not borne fruit.
Incidentally, while the authorities are yet rectify the flooding problem in the subway, the PWD has so far failed to build the proposed 10-meter approach road on both sides of the highway.
The subway built by the Konkan Railway Corporation for the Goa government was thrown open last year at the hands of the Chief Minister, Digambar Kamat. At the time of commissioning, the PWD had promised to build a 10-meter road connecting the subway to the Damodar college road, but in vain.
While the subway has come as a big relief for motorists and students, the authorities are yet to find a permanent solution to the flooding during monsoons. Meanwhile, heavy rains flooded low lying tracts of land in the Khareband-Benaulim on Friday.
