Candle light procession today
PANJIM: The parishioners of Our Lady of Rosary parish of Navelim will hold a candle light procession in solidarity with all agitated Christians across the country in view of the recent attacks on five churches in New Delhi. Parish Priest Fr Jose Rock Gonsalves has called upon the people of Navelim to join the peace march that will begin on Monday at 6 pm from Navelim Church compound with a prayer service. Dr Victor Ferrao, Professor of Rachol seminary will address on secularism and communal harmony. The procession is said to be a march of peace and harmony calling everyone to promote co-existence and respect the secular fabric of our Constitution. 
Compensation scheme for firemen
PANJIM: The State government has notified a scheme to compensate fire services personnel who suffer disability while on duty. A compensation of Rs 20 lakh would be provided in case of full disability. The scheme titled as ‘Grant of ex-gratia lumpsum amount in the case of disability in service to Fire & Emergency Services personnel Scheme- 2014’ aims to provide ex-gratia compensation to fire service personnel, who suffer full or partial disability while performing bona fide duties. The scheme was approved by the State cabinet last month. In case of partial disability like loss of both hands or loss of both legs, then the ex-gratia payment will be100 per cent amount. Loss of sight in both eyes, loss of speech along with loss of hearing will also be considered for 100 per cent amount. The compensation would be 50 per cent in case of loss of sight in one eye, loss of one limb, loss of hearing and loss of speech. If there is loss of hearing in one ear, the firemen will get 15 per cent compensation.
Curtorim Carnival from February 15 
MARGAO: The Curtorim Cultural Committee has planned a host of events, competitions and performances from February 15 to 17 as part of its 9th Carnival anniversary. Committee treasurer Terancio Fernandes said the Committee takes pride in organising one of Goa’s most entertaining carnival programme with people’s participation. “The festival of Curtorkars will have Peter Cardozo as the king of festvities. The parade will leave from Maina Church ground and will wend its way to the Curtorim market square at 3 pm on February 17,” Terancio said. Patron of the Organising Committee MLA Reginaldo Lourenco said the festival of Curtorkars is being celebrated by the people irrespective of their political affiliations.
Talk on Parkinson’s Disease 
PANJIM: Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorder Society (PDMDS) is organizing a talk on neurological conditions of the elderly & healthy ageing, by two neurologists, Dr Aaron D’Souza and Dr Teresa Ferreira. The talk covers topics such as Alzheimer’s, Stroke, Dementia, Parkinson’s and ageing related illnesses. The talk will be held on February 22, from 4 pm to 6 pm at St Jerome (Milagres) Church, ground floor hall. 
Elementary education prospectus
PANJIM: The prospectus for the two-year couse in Diploma in Elementary Education (DElEd) will be available at the Nirmala Institute of Education, Altinho, Panjim from February 9. The last date for receiving applications is February 20. Candidates who have completed their 12th standard are eligible to apply. For further details one may call 2225633.
Blood donation drive held at college
PANJIM: A blood donation drive by NSS unit of VP’s Mandre College of Commerce in association with Rotary Club of Mapusa and administrative staff of Mapusa Urban Co-operative Bank of Goa, was conducted on January 24, in the college premises. A team of doctors from GMC conducted the drive in which 40 donors participated. Adv Ramakant D Khalap inaugurated the drive while Secretary of Rotary Club Mapusa Ajay Menon and member of Rotary Club Pratiksha N Khalap, Nikhilchandra Khalap coordinated the drive. 
Karmel Paul is best orator of Goa
PANJIM: The Rotary Club of Panaji organized the Rotary Orator of Goa contest for college students. There were 27 participants from different colleges wherein Karmel Paul Raj of DM’s College, Assagao won the competition and was declared the Best Orator of Goa. The topic chosen by him was, ‘My Vision for India in 2020.’
