Cash, jewellery of Rs 2.95 lakh stolen from Raia house
MARGAO: Thieves broke into a house at Backbhat, Raia and decamped with cash and jewellery worth Rs 2.95 lakh on Sunday.
According to the house owner Isaac Vaz, the thieves entered through an open balcony door on the floor between 7 am and 7.45 am, when he and his family were at mass. They stole a gold bracelet, gold ring, six gold bangles, a gold chain with a heart pendent, a mangalsutra, a wristwatch and cash of Rs 28,000, which amounted to Rs 2.95 lakh. Police conducted the panchanama and have registered a case under section 380 of IPC. The investigation is in progress.
Gold of Rs 6 lakh stolen at Honda
VALPOI: Gold worth Rs 6 lakh was stolen from a house in Honda on Sunday. The thieves gained access to the house by breaking the latches of the main door between 8 am and 12.30 am, when the house was empty. They decamped with gold bangles, chains, and earrings worth around Rs 6 lakh. The incident came to light when the daughter of house owner Vishwanath Kumbhar returned at 12.30 am.Police conducted the panchanama in the presence of Valpoi Police Inspector Sanjay Dalvi. A dog squad was also brought in, but was unable to get any leads. Eight days earlier, another theft was reported in the village. Thieves broke into a house, beat up the owner Gopalkrishna Joshi and his wife Sheetal Joshi and decamped with gold jewellery worth Rs 4 lakh. Incidentally, the two thefts occurred close to the Honda police station. Locals have demanded that police investigate the same thoroughly.
Truck driver injured in accident
PONDA: A truck driver was injured after his sand-laden vehicle overturned at Apewal on Monday. Truck driver Rahimuddin Karmath Ali (24), a resident of Vasco, was proceeding from Volvoi to another part of Ponda, and at Apewal, he lost control of his vehicle.
Haryana native dies at GMC 
MARGAO: Narendra Rai, aged 54 yrs who was staying at  Colva and was a native of Haryana died at GMC Bambolim on Sunday while undergoing treatment.  Rai was hospitalised due to a fall at Colva beach. His body has been preserved in morgue for further legal formalities. The case is under investigation.
20-year-old commits suicide  
Margao: A staffer of a starred hotel in Benaulim Jayson Furtado resident of Karnataka and aged 20 years committed suicide in the room of the Hotel. He was staying in Benaulim. He committed suicide by hanging himself in the hotel accommodation room. Accordingly the police visited the spot and conducted inquest panchanama. After conducting post mortem examination body was handed over to the relatives for disposal as per religious rites. Case is under investigation.
Cycle rally creates awareness on suicide prevention
PANJIM: As part of its Yellow Ponda campaign, COOJ Mental Health Foundation organized a 15-km cycle rally to create awareness on suicide prevention in Ponda. COOJ organised the event in collaboration with Slopes & Bends and Rotract Club Ponda. Pro-Peddlars and Cycling Goa from Margao and Panjim respectively participated in the rally. Rajesh Verenkar first flagged off the rally at Rashdeep Galaria, Ponda which  culminated at the Borim Bridge. Cyclists held placards and distributed awareness material on suicide prevention. 
Foundation stone for parking complex
PANJIM: Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza will lay the foundation stone for multi storied car parking complex at old fish market, Margao on September 15, at 11.30 am. Minister for Labour, Employment and Fisheries Avertano Furtado, MLAs -- Digambar Kamat, Vijay Sardessai, Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco, Margao Municipal Council Chairperson Arthur D’Silva, Director of Municipal Administrative Elvis Gomes and Chief Officer Y BTavde will attend.
Dry Day on October 2
PANJIM: The State Government will observe dry day on October 2, in order to pay homage and respect to Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation. The casino licensees shall stop the operation of the Casino in the state that day.
Matoli Bazaar at Lohia Maidan
PANJIM: Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar will inaugurate Matoli Bazaar at Lohia Maidan, Margao at 11 am on September 15.  Dattaprasad Kholkar, Dy Chairman, Goa State Planning Board, Subhash Phaldessai, Sanguem MLA, Damodar Naik, Chairman, Ravindra Bhavan, Margao and other dignitaries will be present. The Matoli Bazaar is organized by the Directorate of Planning, Statistics and Evaluation, in association with Centre for Development, Planning and Research (CDPR)  under Atal Gram Yojana. The bazaar will remain open on September 15 and 16, from 7 am to 9 pm. Women Self Help Groups from Netravali will display products such as torin, bede, nal, chafo, patri, kelyacho gad, mandolli kelli and flowers) along with items for Matoli.

PANJIM: The District Magistrate, South Goa Margao, has notified the traffic signages as ‘Accident Prone Zone’ for the purpose of regulating motor vehicle traffic.The places notified are KTC Bus Stand, Margao; Navelim Church junction; Power House Junction, Aquem; Gogol Junction; Tata Showroom, Nuvem; Archis Bar Ambora-Loutolim; Colva four-road junction; Tilamol junction; Copelwado, Ambaulim Quepem; Maruti Gad junction; Kirlapal Dabal; Dandewado Chinchinim; Gulem Karmalghat; Dabolim Airport junction; INS Hansa Gate; Dabolim Bogmalo junction; Cortalim Cross; Titan Junction ; Agnel Ashram; Pirni Petrol Pump; Satrant Cortalim junction and MES College junction.
‘Picnic’ tiatr staged in Delhi
PANJIM: Comedian Agostinho’s tiatr ‘Picnic’ was staged at Fr Agnel High School hall, Gautam Nagar, Delhi on Goa Day. 
The show was organized by Goykarancho Ekvot, New Delhi in association with Directorate of Art and Culture, Government of Goa. 
The tiatr was well appreciated by the audience. Former MP Oscar Fernandes was the chief guest along with his wife Blossom Fernandes. Head of Fr Agnel Ashram, New Delhi Fr Alariko Carvalho was the guest of honour. President of Goykarancho Ekvott Suman Kurade was also attended. Comedian Agostinho was felicitated with shawl, shrifal and memento on being selected as Tiatr Academy Chairman.

PANJIM: JCI St Inez in association with Shree Mahalaxmi Saunsthan Samiti and Bhartiya Sanskrutik Mandal will organise its annual “Panjim Ganeshotsav” 2015 festival programme from September 19 to 26, at Shree Mahalaxmi Temple hall, Panjim-Goa. The programme schedule is as follows September 19 (5 pm - 6.30pm) - fancy dress competition for children up to 15 years, September 20 (10am - 12.30pm) - child art for children up to 15 years (Theme Ganesha), September 21 (10am - 4pm) - Rangoli for children up to 18 years & ladies, September 22 (4pm to 5.30pm) - quiz competition for children up to 15 years (Theme GK), September 23 (5.30 pm to 7 pm) - cooking competition for ladies (prepare and display veg festival dish), September 24 (5 pm to 6.30 pm) - dance competition for children up to 15 years and  September 25 (3pm) - photography competition for children (Theme Ganesha) followed by prize distribution at 3.30pm. Follow the spiritual path: Shripad
PANJIM: Union Minister of State for AYUSH and Health and Family Welfare, Shripad Naik has called upon the people to follow the path and ideas shown by saints and spiritual leaders to live a happy and tension free life.  He said if we imbibe in us the principles and thoughts of these religious leaders it will undoubtedly inculcate good habits and sanskars and give a decisive shape to our life accordingly. He was speaking as chief guest after launching a special pendent in the presence of Dr Muni Shri Pranam Sagarji Maharaj, a Jain Muni at “the Goa Chaturmas Varshayog 2015” near Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary, Mollem.
The minister said observing Chaturmas brings an opportunity to the people of Goa and other States to participate and become a part of the Indian culture and explore their inter-cultural, devotional and spiritual side.
Dr Muni Shri reiterated that the Goa is a land of materialism and expressed his wish to make Goa a yoga centre, as one would find spirituality along with materialism in the State, he added. Earlier, after breaking a month-long ‘Maun Sadhana’ the muni performed ‘Keshlochan’ and offered abhisheka to statue of Mahaveer. Sethi Jain, Praduman Jain, Prashant Patil, Manider Jain, Chandrakant Boje Patil and others were present. Swati Patil compered.
