Number of tax payers in the State increased by 75%: Sawant

PORVORIM:  Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that the number of tax payers in the State has increased by 75 per cent since 2017.
In a written reply tabled in the House on the question tabled by Opposition leader Digambar kamat, Finance Minister Pramod Sawant said that the number of tax payers in the State have increased by 72.35% against number of taxpayer at the time of GST implementation on 1/07/2017. 
“Further, efforts are made to increase the tax base in the state. All efforts are also taken to plug the loop holes through use of data analytics, especially for non-filers of return and fraudulent use of input tax credit,” the reply said. 
Sawant also said that with the introduction of simplified returns and considering the current trends in the growth of revenue, the GST revenue is expected to increase over the coming years.
The Finance Minister also said that there is no reduction in GST collection in the State. However, the GST collection has grown over years and is expected to grow further
As per the information provided the State collected Rs 1106.05 cr till December 2019, while the total GST collection in 2018-19 was Rs 1447.85 cr.
The IGST, which was Rs 1108.06 in 2018-19 has been Rs 665.45 cr till December 2019.
The Finance Minister also said that the total compensation in 2018-19 was Rs 476 cr and till December 2019, the compensation received is Rs 686.00 cr.
The Chief Ministers reply also states that the VAT collection on Petrol and Diesel has nearly reduced by 50 per cent since 2017.
The VAT collection, which was Rs 1544 cr in 2017-18 has reduced to Rs 750 cr in 2019-20.
