PANJIM, DEC 8
Those intending to get a learning licence will now get updates about their status through SMS with Transport Department launching its e-service from the Goa Liberation Day onwards.
Transport Director Arun Desai told reporters that after applying online for the learning licence, the applicant will receive SMS on his mobile informing about the date and time for his test.
Desai said that the learning licence would not be available sitting at home but instead the people can apply online and will have to walk into the Transport Department’s offices for the test.
“We have simplified the procedure and made learning licences easy for the valid applicants. He will be informed about date and time of his test and if he passes the test, he can walk away with the licence within an hour,” the director said.
Last month, chief minister Digamber Kamat had visited Hyderabad along with few Ministers and MLAs to see the functioning of E-services in various government departments.
“As announced by the chief minister, minimum 50 services of the government will be covered by E-services by December 19,” Desai said adding that the Transport Department’s six services will go online on the liberation day.
These services includes application for learning licence, issuance of driving licence, application for renewal of driving licence, issuance of duplicate driving licence, application for subsidy to yellow-black taxis, autorickshaw and motorcycles and subsidy for bigger buses and mini-buses.
National Informatics Centre (NIC) has developed various softwares to cater to the needs of e-governance.
Goa government will put up 50 Lokseva kendras at village level giving online access to these services to the people at grassroot. “These kendras would forward the applications to respective departments, which would be immediately processed,” Desai said.
Responding to a question, the director said that the relevant documents would be needed to be attached with the online application.
“The applicant will have to carry the originals when he appears personally for the test,” Desai added.
