Opposition parties put up united front

PORVORIM: Opposition parties led by Congress on Monday decided to put forth a united force against the Pramod Sawant-led government on the Floor of the House, in a bid to expose their maladministration, corruption and nepotism.
The legislators of Congress, Goa Forward Party (GFP), Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) and one Independent, jointly addressed media persons in the State Assembly complex, minutes before the five-day long Budget session could resume.
In the 40-member State Assembly, Congress has five MLAs; GFP has three; MGP one and one independent Rohan Khaunte. The BJP government enjoys support of 30 legislators, including 27 from its own party, one from NCP and the remaining two are independent MLAs.
Speaking to media persons, Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat said that as the opposition leader of the State Assembly, his role was to bring all the opposition parties together and catch the government on the wrong foot. “We, all the 10 opposition MLAs, are united and we will put up a joint force against government,” he said.
Kamat said that during the five-day session, the opposition will corner the government for their every wrong action on issues like Mhadei river diversion, Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), law and order, drugs and other issue, wherein they will raise their voice and seek answers.
 Later, GFP MLA Vijai Sardesai said that the BJP-led government is selling Goa to maladministration, corruption and nepotism. “This session is mere a formality. Answers given to our questions are either incomplete or wrong,” he said.
He said that opposition has jointly put up 23 calling attentions and three short duration discussion on issues like Mhadei, CAA and reservation to ST in the assembly.
