PANJIM: Goa government has directed M/s Golden Heritage Private Limited (GHPL) at Malim to demolish a jetty built by it and restore the land to its original look.
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar assured on the floor of the House that he will ensure that the illegal jetty was razed. “I have already issued a notice asking the company to demolish the jetty and restore the land… I signed the notice some three to four days back,” he informed.
The government admitted that the jetty had no permission from the Captain of Ports or other departments concerned.
The owner of the company is Sushma Narvekar, wife of former law minister Dayanand Narvekar.
Parrikar assured that if the company fails to demolish the structure, the Collectorate and the Ports departments will step in.
“If the company does not obey the notice, other government authorities will ensure it is razed,” he added.
The chief minister was replying to a question tabled by Independent legislator Rohan Khaunte who sought information on the number of legal and illegal jetties along the banks of River Mandovi and its tributaries.
The reply submitted that there are 29 legal and one illegal jetty in the State.
Captain of Ports, village panchayats, Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority, Saligao, and Goa Pollution Control Board are the monitoring agencies for such illegal construction of jetties.
