As expected, SUMUL dairy Goa has made an energetic start in the state and has begun to attract milk producers by giving a reward higher than Goa Dairy for milk producers by means of various schemes. The SUMUL dairy may have arrived in Goa with controversies but within two months, SUMUL has managed to draw 3000 liters of milk supply from various milk producers from North and South Goa. The supply of milk to SUMUL from Netravali began from 1st May and it has drawn over 500 litres of milk from Netravali alone.
After SUMUL was given access in the state, lots of confusion and controversies erupted. Goa Dairy was vehemently against the entry of SUMUL in Goa and had opposed even the experimental entry of the Gujarat based union. Some of the farmers providing milk to Goa Dairy made allegations against the Goa Dairy Board of Directors alleging that they are in to finish Goa’s grand old dairy cooperative. All eyes were set on the response SUMUL gets in Goa. However, by supporting the farmers in a big way, SUMUL is becoming a favourite of milk farmers. According to officials of SUMUL, the dairy has started getting nearly 3000 litres of milk from from Valpoi, Sanguem and Sattari talukas.
Chief Executive Officer of SUMUL dairy, Sagar Kotharkar while speaking to Herald said, “Sattari had two bulk coolers and under that, there are 10 self help groups. Netravali has been provided with 1 bulk milk cooler.”
The first BMC has supplied 1500 litres of milk, Advai-Sattari has supplied 800 litres and Netravali BMC has provided 500 litres of milk to the dairy. Kotharkar further said that the total supply of milk to SUMUL dairy is reaching 3000 litres and the figure is going to be much higher in the upcoming days.
According to the available information, SUMUL dairy has loaded the milk producers with many attractive schemes which is one reason several milk producers are joining hands with SUMUL every day. In further discussion with the CEO, he explained, “Goan farmers are getting the same schemes which SUMUL is giving to dairy farmers in Gujarat. For the year 2015 and 2016, every farmer is being given an annual bonus rate or rate difference of 1.30 rupees per litre. In addition to this, basic financial assistance to each group will also be given and these schemes have no connection to the Government benefits or assistances.” SUMUL is also providing about 50 kg of cattle feed to milk farmers and is also giving money for the treatment of cattle at the rate of Rs 40 per cow. In case of emergencies, doctor’s fee of Rs 100 and a free dose of medicine has also been fixed.
