Three students killed in Usgao mishap

PONDA: A visit from the Bondla wildlife sanctuary came to tragic end when three students were killed after a motorcycle and a private bus collided with each other at Nanus Usgao on Friday afternoon.
The deceased have been identified as Anish Aglotkar (17) of Aglot-Sacorda, Aparna Gaonkar (21) of Mollem and Mhadavi Pawar (20) of Pratapnagar-Usgao. While the boy was studying at the ITI Farmagudi, the two girls were studying at V S Lad HS School in Piliem-Dharbandora.
According to Ponda police, the mishap took place at a sharp turn in Nanus-Usgao at about 1 pm, when the three students were reportedly proceeding on a motorcycle towards Ponda after visiting the Bondla wildlife sanctuary.
Police believe that Anish Aglotkar lost control of the motorcycle and the two-wheeler collided with an oncoming private bus, which was transporting a few passengers towards Paikul-Sattari.
The impact of the accident was such that all the three students died on the spot. The bodies were first taken to the Ponda Sub District Hospital and were later shifted to Goa Medical  College Hospital for post-mortem.
Savordem MLA Ganesh Gaonkar, Sacorda Sarpanch Shirish Dessai, Dharbandora Panch Shamba Gaude, ex-sarpanch Mohan Gaonkar and Dr Manoj Kamat later visited GMC hospital.  MLA Ganesh Gaonkar has expressed grief over the incident, while Ponda police has detained the bus driver, Pradip Gaonkar, for further investigations.
