Newly-wed Goan couple meets Pope Francis

PANJIM: A newly-married couple from Calangute – Nigel and Sallyann D’Souza – recently got a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet the Holy Father, Pope Francis, in person and receive his blessings.

Sallyann said, “It started with us planning our honeymoon trip to Italy. We were prodded by my father to meet the Pope. While searching on the Internet, we stumbled upon the concept of Sposi Noveli and relentlessly worked to make this meeting possible.”
Pope Francis holds a general audience most Wednesdays either at St Peter’s Square or the Paul VI audience hall. The audience has a chance to pray with the Holy Father and receive his blessing. At the end of the audience, the Holy Father meets newlywed couples (Sposi Novelli), has a private word, blesses them and presents the couple with a unique rosary. The couples are seated in the reparto speciale section.
Nigel said, “Meeting the Pope is a surreal experience. I am very excited that I could set this up for Sallyann. In the event that any couple would like to understand the process for obtaining tickets for this unique meeting, we would be happy to help. Please reach us at sal10@rediffmail.com.”
