Radial approach angiography at NUSI
PANJIM: Dr Sabyasachi Mukhopadhyay, senior consultant & interventional cardiologist, heads the cardiac unit of NUSI-Wockhardt Hospitals-Goa.  His radial approach of coronary angiography and stenting has enabled him to perform various complicated heart procedures. The technique of trans radial coronary stenting has evolved and hospital stay for patients is significantly reduced. Compared to the femoral approach, there is substantial economic benefit because of reduced vascular complications and shorter hospital stay.
Diabetes camp at Panjim
PANJIM: A free diabetes camp will be conducted at Eric Chemist and Druggist, Campal on September 19, between 9.30 am to 11 am for those aged 40 years and above.
Trek to Pal waterfall in Valpoi
PANJIM: Goa YMCA Panjim has organised a monsoon trek to Pal waterfall at Valpoi  on September 27.  The trekkers will leave from Goa YMCA Campal Panjim by special bus at 8 am. Those interested may contact YMCA International Goa, next to Methodist Church, behind Campal parade ground. Those interested should register by September 22. The route will be departure from YMCA Campal at 8 am, Hira petrol pump, Amona bridge, Sanquelim health centre, Valpoi.
Legal fete organised at Don Bosco
PANJIM: The North Goa District Legal Services authority, Panjim, organized a legal awareness fete at Don Bosco Oratory, Panjim on September 13 and 14. The aim of the fete was to create awareness by bringing together all the stakeholders on one platform. The fete was inaugurated by Justice Utkarsh V Bakre. Judge B P Deshpande, S C Chandak and Advocate Saresh Lotlikar were present. Lectures were given on art of advocacy, mediation, Common Civil Code, domestic violence and sexual harassment, child rights and child trafficking, saving the environment. Skits were performed by para legal volunteers and students from PES College, Ponda, VM Salgaonkar College, Miramar and World Vision India on various social and legal issues. Drawing competition for children was also conducted and so also spot quiz.
Archdiocese directory released
PANJIM: The new Directory 2014-2015 of the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman was released. The publication gives detailed information about the pastoral activities in the Church in Goa. It covers parishes in Goa and in Daman which also includes the territory of Diu, institutes of the religious (women and men), educational institutions, technical schools and various other services for the proclamation of the Word. New features are included in the present edition of the directory which is priced at Rs 100. It is available at the Lighthouse, Margao and Vasco, St Paul’s Sisters, Panjim and Mapusa, Jivita Sondex, Old Goa, Kala Mandir, Archiepiscopal Palace, Old Goa and some of the parishes.
Lecture on Tarini on Sept 18
PANJIM: The Directorate of Museum is organizing a lecture of Dr Pratima Kamat, historian and professor at Goa University on the Tarini - the unique boat deity of Goa on September 18, at 3.30 pm.
Engineers’ Day on Sept 20
PANJIM: The institution of Engineers, India, Goa State Centre, Panjim will be celebrating 47th Engineer’s Day on September 20, to commemorate the 154th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Sir Makshagundam Visvesvaraya, at 6 pm at Hotel Fidalgo, Panjim. Union Minister, Shripad Y Naik will be the chief guest and Rajan J Bhatikar will be the Keynote speaker. An engineer will be honoured for his lifelong services in the engineering field.         
Goa short film festival in city
PANJIM: The first Goa short film festival will be held in Goa on September 17 and 18, at the Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) from 9 am to 6 pm everyday. The Chairperson of ESG Damodar Naik will inaugurate the festival. Chairman of Indian Motion pictures of India Vikas Patil, Anil Kakade, Meghraj Rajebhosale, Vaibhav Joshi, Girishkumar Odedara, Sachin Parab will also attend. Shalya, Lingbhed, Break-up and Cheddum are the films from Goa selected for competition in the festival. Awards will be given in 10 different categories at a ceremony on September 18.
XCHR website launch on Sept 20
PORVORIM: Xavier Centre of Historical Research (XCHR) will be launching its website Prutha (www.pruthagoa.com) on September 20, at 10 am. The website is to be an online resource to promote social work and will carry articles about arts, culture, environment, beneficial scientific progress and traditional social work. The launch programme includes talks on the environment, NGO workings, corporate social responsibility (CSR) and the role of literature and drama in the positive transformation of society. Speakers include Rajendra Kerkar, Fr Jose Sequeira, Manguirish Pai Raiker and Isabel de Santa Rita Vas.
