Notice issued to Timeout for GST

PANJIM: Department of Commercial Taxes said it will issue a show cause notice to the organisers of Timeout 72 Electronic Dance Music (EDM) festival on Thursday over the latter’s failure to pay the State government’s share of Good and Services Tax (GST).

The deadline, given by Commercial Taxes Department to the festival organisers, was January 20, but was extended by another two days owing to a set of issues on the GST portal.  

Speaking to Herald, Commercial Taxes Commissioner Dipak Bandekar confirmed that the notice will be sent on Thursday and said, “Upon receiving the show-cause notice if the organisers still fail to pay, the Department of Commercial Taxes will immediately issue summons and again if they fail the matter will be handed over to the police. 

As per the law there is a fine of Rs 50 per day on non filing of GST returns subject to a maximum of Rs 10,000 while there is an 18 percent per annum interest as well as late payment of the GST.”

The commissioner further said that the organisers have also failed to inform the department about the total sale of tickets during the three day festival from December 27 to 29, 2017 at Vagator.

Sources from the department, however, revealed that a team of officers has assessed the number of people that attended the EDM festival.
