MARGAO: Highlighting the importance of trees, Fr Roger Godinho, parish priest of St Michael Church, Orlim reminded the locals of their duty towards taking care of the planet earth. 
In his homily during the sapling distribution ceremony organised to mark 450th jubilee year of St Michael Church, Orlim, Fr Roger stressed the need to keep the village green.
The plant distribution was held at the Church keeping in mind the church’s call to preserve the environment. 
Each family of the village was given a fruit-bearing sapling as a remembrance of the jubilee year. 
Fr Roger thanked the Agriculture Minister Vijai Sardesai for helping them procure the fruit-bearing saplings. 
Chief guest Nazario Pinto, Chairman of the Varca-Orlim Farmers’ Society to stressed the need to cultivate the fields and informed the farmers that society was willing to provide the mechanized equipment to help them. 
The newly-elected panchayat members were also present. Deputy Sarpanch Keizer Martins urged the locals to consume home-grown vegetables and fruits.
