PERNEM: Around ten families residing at Kadshi-Mopa have been stranded for the last five days as the only access bridge to the village has been submerged under river water for the last few days.
Locals said they have been facing this issue for the last five years as the bridge across the Kadshi river gets submerged when the river water level swells with the tide when rains lash the State.
The area has been marooned and students could not attend their classes nor could the people shop for groceries as no vehicles ply over the flooded bridge.
“A proposal was placed before the panchayat for upgradation of the bridge however nothing has been done till date to sort out the issue,” said villagers and added that if in case there was an emergency neither an ambulance  nor a fire brigade would reach the area.
As of now, there are over 30 people stranded here and count on divine providence to provide for their needs till the water level goes down.
When contacted, Pernem Mamlatdar Anant Malik said, “The government machinery is keeping close watch on the situation and the families who are stuck at Mopa, Kadshi are in contact with us. The government system will provide them all the required assistance.”
Meanwhile, wooden logs are stuck at the old bundh on Bailpar river at Kasarwarne which has led to the change in the flow of the river.
