Panjim’s Pratheek cracks 77th rank in IIT-JEE (advanced)

PANJIM: After 2006, another Goan has made us proud. Panjim lad Pratheek Oscar Rebello added another feather to his cap when he clinched 77 all-India ranking at IIT-JEE advance with 84% marks on Sunday. In 2006, Ralf Silva from Goa stood 23rd all India.  Pratheek has decided to join IIT Mumbai's electrical engineering stream. He scored 308 out of 366.

Pratheek was also declared ‘Role Model’ for students aspiring for professional courses by the Mushtifund Aryaan Higher Secondary School, Panjim.

Rebello had ranked 96 in the country at the Kishore Vigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) examination in the PCM (physics-chemistry-mathematics) category. In 2015, Rebello's Class X ICSE board score had placed him 4th all India.

Pratheek, who topped GCET exam by scoring 144 out of 150, topped the crucial Birla Institute of Technology and Science Aptitude Test (BITSAT) 2017 by scoring 426 out of 450, the best every score by any student from the Aryaan’s. 

He scored 95.3 percent in the recently held XII examination. While thanking his parents and teachers, Pratheek said that he would be obliged if he could prepare students for IIT. “I am very much thankful to my parents, who had never put pressure on me or restricted me from doing anything. I was given the freedom. Also I am grateful to the teachers and specially the principal (Venkatesh Prabhudesai) for helping me in achieving my dreams,” he said. 

When the IIT JEE Advance results were declared on Sunday, it emerged that around 18 students from Goa had managed to bag a rank, with eight students topping in the first five thousand All India ranking. 

“A total 37 students had answered the IIT JEE advance of which 18 are eligible to get admissions in any IITs across the country considering the entry of new IITs in India,” Prabhudessai told media persons. 

“These students along with eight others are also eligible for admissions in National Institute of Technology (NIT),” he added. 

Speaking about Pratheek, the principal said “we have decided to make him the role model of  other students…he is an inspiration to many. The institute is proud of him”.
