Vasco: After several CoVID cases recently surfaced outside the Mangor Hill containment zone, the government administration has decided to cordon off affected areas from parts of Vasco. On Wednesday, part of Baina and Headland Sada area were cordoned off by placing barricades and police personnel at the site after few CoVID positive cases were detected in these areas.

Herald in a series of ground reports has been constantly raising the issue of not bringing more areas in the COVID hotspot of Mormugao under containment.

In Baina there are 29 COVID positive cases while in Headland Sada, the count has gone up to 23 cases"

Sachin Dessai Deputy Collector of Mormugao, told Herald that a part of the Baina area has been made into micro containment zone and buffer zone. In the containment zone, there are five houses. When asked why specific houses and areas have been targeted for micro containment zone, Dessai said "that around 14 CoVID cases were detected here earlier. This area has been cordoned off," he added.

About the Headland Sada area, the Deputy Collector said, "the area from ward number 4 near Rose Circle ground, Pandav Vada, Sada have been declared as a containment zone. Police have been deputed at the site and barricades have been placed. Recently in this area too around 13 cases were identified," Dessai informed.

When asked whether any arrangements have been made to provide essential items and services to the people from the micro containment zone at both places,  the officer revealed that the administration is in the process of making necessary arrangements for providing essential goods and services to these people from the micro containment zones. The system of supplying essentials will be put in place, most likely from Thursday onwards.

Meanwhile, three police constables were tested positive for CoVID, on Wednesday. One of them is attached to the Mormugao Police station and the others are two constables attached to the Vasco Police station.

These three police constables were stationed at the Mangor Hill containment zone area for duty and recently they started showing symptoms of fever and cough. Later their swab samples were reportedly taken for testing at the Chicalim sub district hospital where it came to light that these constables were positive for CoVID-19.
