MARGAO: A training programme titled ‘Justice for Every Child: Enhancing Prosecution with Compassion’ was held recently, organised by SCAN Goa in collaboration with the Office of the Superintendent of Police, South Goa, and VVM's Govind Kare College of Law. The event aimed to sensitise police officers on handling cases involving children and vulnerable individuals.
The programme was coordinated by Police Inspector Sudiksha Naik of the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit, Margao, under the guidance of Superintendent of Police, South Goa, Sunita Sawant.
Chief guest Poonam Bharne highlighted the critical role of police in supporting victims and urged officers to treat the charge sheet as their ‘baby’ to ensure justice is upheld throughout trials. She unveiled a Ready Reckoner poster for police stations, detailing offences against children.
Archana Bhobe emphasised key provisions of the BNS Act 2023 and the Goa Children’s Act 2003, stressing the need for diligent and sensitive policing. Adv Chandan Shirodkar elaborated on the roles of police and Child Welfare Committees in cases under the POCSO Act 2012 and JJ Act 2015.
PI Rajesh Job conducted a session on cybercrime affecting children and women, offering practical insights. Former forensic expert Dr Silvano Dias Sapeco stressed the importance of forensic involvement and avoiding procedural lapses during investigations.
The event, attended by 60 police sub-inspectors, concluded with certificates and mementos for participants and resource persons.
