
PONDA: The Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) at its Thursday meeting has decided to install Artificial Intelligence (AI) cameras in some prime locations in the town on pilot basis for one month on Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode. If the experiment is successful, then PMC will install such cameras in more areas in the next few months along with provision for 25 years maintenance.
Chairperson Ritesh Naik said, “In this regard one Info Tech Corporation of Goa Ltd had approached the council to install such cameras. The issue was discussed and approved by the Council. After installing AI cameras it would help to keep vigil in the area, and ensure safety and security of commuters, residents and school children in the town, school and market area.”
Similarly the automatic system fitted in cameras will detect incidents and share information of theft to police and in case of accident to 108 and hospitals etc.
Naik said, “Sopo auction would be conducted soon for collection of sopo (sitting tax) outside Ponda Market area at base price of Rs 41 lakh. It was also decided to install automatic cloth bag vending machine in the prime market areas with the collaboration of a company to prevent the use of plastic bags.”
Naik also said that the Council has given approval to proposal put by another company for installing rendering machine for treatment of wet garbage such as chicken, mutton and fish waste from which they will prepare poultry feed at their own cost. Beside this, PMC has already started construction work on 5 TPD waste treatment plant at Kerya and the Curti-Khandepar Panchayat has allowed PMC to set up 5 TPS bio gas plant at Kerya waste treatment site.
