Porvorim Faces Water Crisis: Residents in Succoro Left Without Water for Two Months

Residents of Succoro complain that they do not get a single drop of public water and have to rely on private water tankers, where as residents of Shantinagar and Pundalik nagar get preferential treatment, with water tankers sent by government, residents alleged.

PORVORIM: Porvorim which was billed as the New Panjim city with the shifting of government department, the High Court, the Secretariat and the Legislature is writhing for water.

Residents of Succoro area has not received a drop of water for two months. Our traps are dry, there is not a single drop of water from teh taps.

At the same time some areas of Porvorim such as Shantinagar and Pundalik Nagar get preferential treatment and get water supplied to them in tankers, by the PWD.

Even when residents want to order private tanker water some residents alleged that in some area there is water contractor mafia is deliberately breaking pipes so plumbing contractors can get work, Dhananjay Borkar alleged.

The future of Porvorim in terms of water supply looks grim.

Sigmund D'Souza, resident of Succoro told Herald Media, "We have not received water since Christmas, not a single drop. The area near Copper leaf restaurant does not get water, while the slums which are vote banks get water.

 

Amid the shortage of water, the tankers who draw water from wells and bore well have a field day. In fact some alleged that they run like a mafia, not allowing tankers from other areas to operate in Porvorim. The tankers charge upto Rs 2000 per litre, Sigmund D'Souza said.

Dhananjay Borkar said that one has to be crooked to get water. Common people do not get water. The big bungalows get 24 hours water thanks to the panchas, he alleged.
