Rain continues to pound Goa, crosses 100 inch mark

PANJIM: With the monsoon being active in Goa, the State has received over an average of 100 inches of rainfall in just 50 days, marking a 57.8 per cent surplus.

According to the IMD Goa, from June 1 to July 21, 2024, the state has received an average rainfall of 101.3 inches as against the normal rainfall of 64.21 inches, a surplus of 57.8 per cent.

During the same period, North Goa has received a rainfall of 105.2 inches as against normal rainfall of 65 inches, registering a surplus of 60.6 per cent while South Goa has received a rainfall of 97.8 inches of rainfall as against normal rainfall of 63.05 inches a positive departure of 55.3 per cent. 

The rainfall recorded by various cities during the last 24 hours ending at 8.30 am of July 21 was Mapusa 1.2 inches, Pernem, 2.5 inches, Panjim 2.9 inches, Old Goa 3.2 inches, Sanquelim 2.6 inches, Canacona 1.1 inches, Dabolim 1.6 inches, Margao 2.6 inches, Mormugao 1.9 inches, Quepem 1.5 inches and Sanguem 2.7 inches of rainfall.

Meanwhile, IMD has extended the five day orange alert issued for the state on Saturday, July 20 by one more day till July 25. 

“Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at many places with strong surface winds over North Goa and South Goa districts on July 22, 23, 24 and 25,” the IMD Goa said.
