
UTORDA: In a tragic accident between a Skoda Klyaq car and an oncoming Activa scooter a scooter rider died while the pillion rider sustained grievous injuries. The accident occurred at around 5:55 pm on NH-66 near Utorda Bypass in Seraulim, Verna. The SUV bearing temporary registration number MH-14-TCM-605, was driven by Prashant Gaikwad, a resident of Raigad, Maharashtra.
The Verna police reported that the accused driver was driving rashly and negligently, endangering human life while traveling from Margao toward Panjim. Near the Uttorda bypass, the car veered onto the wrong side of the road and collided head-on with the Activa scooter bearing registration number GA-08-AK-1869.
The scooter rider, identified as Sitaram Karapurkar, a resident of Bhat Pawni, Pernem, and the pillion rider, Ravindra Kumar Singh, a native of Jharkhand, sustained severe injuries. Tragically, the rider succumbed to his injuries at South Goa District Hospital in Margao.
Verna police have registered an offence under sections 125(b), 281, and 106(1) of the BNS. The accused driver, Prashant Gaikwad, was arrested but later released on bail.
Further investigation into the case is being carried out by PSI Ramchandra M. Naik of Verna Police Station under the supervision of PI Melson Colaco and the guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
The incident highlights the dangers of rash driving and the urgent need for caution on highways to prevent such tragedies.
