Sequeira Emphasizes Unity in Diversity at Republic Day Event in Margao

MARGAO: Environment Minister Aleixo Sequeira emphasized that Republic Day embodies the spirit of unity in diversity, marking the adoption of the Indian Constitution in 1950, which transformed India into a republic. He shared these sentiments while addressing the Republic Day function held at the South Goa Collectorate in Margao.

Extending his greetings to the public, Sequeira highlighted the Indian Constitution's principles of equality, liberty, justice, and fraternity, which continue to guide the nation. He noted that this year's celebrations revolve around the theme "Golden India, Legacy and Progress," reflecting the country’s achievements and aspirations.

The minister lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership and credited the “double-engine Sarkar” for Goa's rapid infrastructural development. He also commended Chief Minister Pramod Sawant for his efforts in fostering the growth of the student community, stating that today's students are the leaders of tomorrow.

The event began with Sequeira receiving the guard of honor from contingents of the Police, Home Guards, and students.

This was followed by an impressive March Past featuring the Police, Home Guards, GHRDC, NCC cadets, and student groups. Cultural performances, including traditional dances and patriotic songs, added vibrancy to the celebrations.

In the March Past competition, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Canacona secured the first prize, followed by Nutan Mahila High School, Margao and St Tereza High School. Ravindra Kelekar Dnyanmandir, Margao, took the top prize for patriotic songs, with Rosary English High School and New Era High School winning second and third places, respectively. For cultural performances, Carmel High School won first place, Damodar High School came second, and St. Joseph High School secured third place. The prizes were sponsored by the Samraat Club of Margao.

The ceremony was attended by Navelim MLA Ulhas Tuenkar, South Goa Collector Egna Cleetus, Superintendent of Police Sunita Sawant, senior officials, and freedom fighters. The program was compered by Anil Pai.
