PANJIM: Ahead of new tourism season set to kick off in October, the Tourism department has proposed to mandatorily seek tourist information, on monthly basis, from the registered hotels and accommodation providers, failing which a fine up to Rs 50,000 would be imposed.

The department has proposed an amendment to the Goa Registration of Tourist Trade Rules, 1985, making tourists report mandatory for registered hotels and accommodation providers. The department has warned that in absence of data, registration renewals of the units will not be done.

As per the amendment, every person running the business of a hotelkeeper shall submit statistics on a monthly basis containing the details of the tourists residing in the hotel/other accommodation units. Such Statistics will be submitted in online mode.

While providing the data, mandatory identity proof or document of every tourist including domestic and international, is mandatory.

Tourism Director Nikhil Desai said that those hotels or accommodation units failing to submit the data would be liable to a fine of Rs 25,000 at the first instance and a fine of Rs 50,000 for every subsequent default.

“No Certificate of Registration shall be renewed unless such statistics are submitted and fine for defaulting period is paid,” Desai said.

The department has asked stakeholders to submit their suggestions and objections to the amendment within 30 days.
