PANJIM:  On Sunday, Ribandar residents protested against the backbreaking potholes and dust pollution problems which they face every day. The PWD or Smart City show no signs of improving the condition of roads. Not only Ribandar, but Curchorem and Calangute road issue were also raised by activists. Due to these bad roads, two riders were left with severe injuries at Curchorem. In this edition of Street Voices, Herald TV spoke to people whether residents of other places should also follow people of Ribandar and protest against potholes in their area.

A lot of people are suffering due to bad roads. The government and the CM have taken some action. But he should take strict action against the engineers and supervisors who are supposed to maintain quality standards. Because if this situation gets worse, it is troublesome for the Government and serious trouble for two and four wheeler commuters across the State. Stop gap solutions of putting concrete and patching up should stop. The cement does not have time to cure and the roads become up and down and many two wheeler riders slip and fall. Government should close and road and tar it entirely. Yes people across the state should protest.

The Government gave its report card that it spent Rs 3000 crore on roads and bridges. Did the government not have money to repair internal roads? Just two days back I have done a ‘one-man-agitation’ where there is a huge crater on the road in front of the church. It occurs every year, for the last five years. Does this not come to the notice of the PWD? Today the roads all across the state are in bad shape leading to accidents. In Ribandar the roads are so bad, how due to expect the people to commute? I will support the Ribondkars in their road blockade on 30th September.

CM Pramod Sawant had assured to repair the potholes before Ganesh Chaturthi. It is very refreshing and soothing to listen to the assurances of the chief minister. It appears that the work will surely be done. But sadly there is no value to his statements. The roads are in such a bad state that there was an agitation at Ribandar on Sunday. The Smart City roads in Ribandar are completely back breaking. My road at Mayembhat, Corlim has not been repaired for the last 40 years. It is not possible to drive on this road. I request the CM to be careful while giving assurances. He should also deliver on his promises.
