MARGAO: Shyam alias Saiesh Rajadhyaksh has been elected as the new Davorlim-Dicarpale sarpanch. The opposition panchas failed to capitalize on the opportunity, despite a no-confidence motion being filed against the ruling group, a month ago.
A cross-voting among the opposition group of six panch members resulted in Rajadhyaksh’s victory, with Vidhyadhar Arlekar elected as the Deputy Sarpanch. They secured the positions with a 6-5 vote margin during the special meeting held on Friday.
Recently, a group of six members moved a no-confidence motion against Sarpanch Santosh Naik and Deputy Sarpanch Carmino Carvalho, just seven months after they took charge. The panch members who signed the no-confidence motion include Menino Joao Colaco, Michelle Miranda, Myla Rocha, Francisco Dias, Vidhi Varak, and Herculano Niasso.
All were shocked on Friday when the candidates fielded by the opposition group failed to capitalize on their majority of six members.
Earlier, in 2023, Herculano Niasso, who was the Sarpanch, and Michelle Miranda, the Deputy Sarpanch, were voted out of office.
Speaking to reporters, newly elected Sarpanch Rajadhyaksh stated that his priority will be addressing waste management in the village.
“We will work hard to keep the village clean from garbage, which has been a major problem for the last several years,” assured Rajadhyaksh.
