PANJIM: Goa State Police Complaints Authority (SPCA) on Wednesday directed that proceedings in the extortion complaint against then Konkan Railway Police Sub Inspector and present Crime Branch (CB) Inspector Dattaguru Sawant should proceed ex-parte.
When the matter came up for hearing, the PI remained absent, which was recorded as his 12th absence since August 2014.
Goa State Police Complaints Authority  observed that since the officer was absent and had also not filed a reply to the complaint against him, the proceedings will now proceed ex-parte. The matter has been adjourned for October 15.
The complaint of extortion was filed by two porters from Margao Railway Station – Mohammed Samsher Alam Sayyed and his brother Mohammed Abass Sayyed – that Sawant, along with head constable Manoj Mandrekar had demanded free helmets from the goods consignment that had arrived at the Railway Station on September 1, 2013.
The porters alleged that when they refused to meet the demand, they were arrested and falsely implicated in the case.
