
VALPOI: A special squad will do round the clock monitoring of the Chorla Ghat road connecting Goa and Belgaum and full precautions will be taken to prevent landslides during the rains.
“The government machinery is all set to combat emergency situations which arise during monsoon in Chorla Ghats section of Goa-Belgaum road stretch. The system is in place to clear the roads if landslides occur," said Sattari deputy collector Pravin Parab.
"The road between Sankhali and Belgaum is extremely dangerous during monsoon and the incidents of landslides have increased in the past five years. Hence, machinery of PWD has been deployed since the last three years to clear the road," he said.
"A special squad will be deployed to monitor the roads 24/7 and work of clearing the debris will be undertaken immediately incase of landslides. A proposal regarding the same has been sent to the government and is expected to receive approval in the next four days," added Parab.
The Chorla Ghat road is a crucial route which connects Goa and Karnataka and Ramnagar and Anmod routes are also used to shuttle between the two States.
