PANJIM: The State government will invest Rs 60 crore to promote technical education in an effort to encourage students to take up various career oriented technical courses.
The Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) has notified a scheme “Diamond Jubilee-Government Investment for Technical Education Scheme” or in short “DJ-GIFT Education Scheme”, which will be implemented from the current academic year onwards.
The scheme gives waiver of 50 per cent on admission fees to technical courses.
The Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant said that the scheme aims to ensure that no deserving student or those who are interested to take up technical courses, misses out the opportunity only because of high fees.
He said that government will invest Rs 60 crore in technical education that will benefit around 10,650 students from 15 colleges.
He said, “All students with Goan domicile are eligible for the scheme.”
The Government claims that the financial assistance provided under the scheme will encourage and facilitate more Goan students to enroll and avail technical education and training, thereby enhancing their employment potential, and consequent contribution to the State economy.
The DTE has already commenced admissions for various degree and diploma courses in the technical learning.
