MARGAO: The Education Department in a circular mandated that all students should wear canvas shoes instead of leather shoes. The reason cited is environmental concerns. Given that government is cutting trees and allowing land conversions without a care, Herald Media asked parents, “Is it sensible that all students have to wear canvas shoes to school instead of leather shoes?”

Every school has managed their own affair by telling students what to wear, that should remain. Now a major suspicion arises if government has made any contract with a canvas shoes company?

Every school has their own protocol of what type of shoes to wear, some were wearing leather shoes, this should continue. Now the school is about to close, so buying new canvas shoes will be a financial burden to the parents. So according to me this step which the government has taken is not proper. Every school has managed their own affair by telling students what to wear, that should remain. Now a major suspicion arises if government has made any contract with a canvas shoes company?

But canvas shoes get stained and the durability of canvas shoes is the minimum. Parents prefer leather shoes since  they last for a long time.

Though my kids are going to a private school in Margao, I cannot understand why the government is interfering in telling the students what to do. Has the government got a separate contract for canvas shoes which they want to distribute to the schools? This absolutely not required. First the government should understand that canvas shoes are flat shoes. But canvas shoes get stained and the durability of canvas shoes is the minimum. Parents prefer leather shoes since  they last for a long time. What they government is trying to do is force students to buy canvas shoes and if they get spoilt buy new shoes. So every year they will have to buy two pairs of shoes. This is absolutely not affordable for the common man.

This what the government is starting –with shoes, every month they may introduce something. But don’t burden the good law abiding citizens.

Every school, teacher and student have their own routine of wearing sandals in the rains, when PT period is there they wear canvas shoes, otherwise they wear leather shoes and this has been going on. There is no need for the government to interfere. Today we see too many scams. We know that many people don’t speak out. But I wish to speak out. This what the government is starting –with shoes, every month they may introduce something. But don’t burden the good law abiding citizens. If you want to make money, recover the taxes. Don’t try to make money by burdening the common man. You do this and finally we find out that somebody has looted the exchequer.
