Substandard Cashews worth Rs 3 lakh seized by FDA at Calangute

CALANGUTE: Food and Drug Administration continued its surveillance drive in Calangute area to check for sale of substandard cashew. On Monday, in a major crackdown a supplier involved in distribution of substandard cashew was traced and his premises having about 3000kgs of poor quality and substandard cashew was seized after legal sample was taken by Food Safety Officer Bhakti Walke.

The total stock is valued at about Rs 3 lakh. This surveillance drive was conducted by designated Officer Richard Noronha along with senior food safety officer Rajaram Patil and FSO Lenin de Sa, Madhav Kavlekar Safia Khan and Vishwas Rane under the guidance of FDA director Shweta Dessai.  The food business operator involved in this offence is Avinash Powar from Azara Maharashtra.
