
PANJIM: The High Court of Telangana has set aside the Preventive Detention (PD) order of the Hyderabad police against owner of Curlies restaurant Edwin Nunes. The Court has directed immediate release of Nunes from custody while passing order in the petition filed by his wife Arpa Nunes.
Arpa had filed a petition before the HC of Telangana under Article 226 of the Constitution of India for directing the Hyderabad police to release the detenu Nunes.
Edwin was sent to PD on December 9, 2022 in after the Hyderabad Central Zone police claimed that he has been habitually peddling “narcotic drugs” in the limits of Hyderabad Police Commissionerate and in Goa. The order was pronounced by the division bench of Telangana HC comprising of Justice Abhinand Kumar Shavili and Justice Pulla Karthik.
The Hyderabad Police had said that Edwin is an inter-state drug peddler running Curlies Shack restaurant and two other hotels in Goa and attracting hundreds of customers especially the youth, to his restaurant by providing narcotic drugs. Edwin is also reportedly involved in 4 cases of drug peddling. The police said that Edwin has a network of more than 2000 consumers who are located in different parts of the country.
