Tension brews over Costa ground project

MARGAO: Tension erupted yet again at Costa Ground, Aquem when locals tried to stop the developer from demarcating the land for construction. The locals complained that developer Manjunath Dukle had hired private security to force them into submission.

They also demanded that the work on the ground be completed before constructing the building.
Both parties met the Superintendent of Police, South Goa on Monday to discuss the issue. They will also speak to the former CMManohar Parrikar on May 10. A high-ranking official, however, stated that Dukle had the upper hand as he fulfilled all legal requirements, and that the authorities would support his work at the ground.
Aquem local Andrew Sequeira slammed Dukle’s move to bring in private security for the demarcation of the land. He said, “The private security at the site is a desperate move of the developer to do something wrong.” He added that the work at the site should be done at their wishes and not at the behest of the developer.
Meanwhile, Dukle was full of confidence. He stated that the case for revocation of his construction licenses at the DMA was struck down in the past.
He said, “I hold the full power of attorney to develop the land, but I have still promised to make a playground in the centre of the property. If the locals act oppressive, I will definitely use legal might and start my work.
Replying to the people’s objection of not cordoning the project, he said, “The cordoning of the area being developed is a mandate of construction rules and not my personal interest.”
