The minister has not yet visited the jetty, despite it gaining attention for alarming reasons and an increase in cases of diarrhea and symptoms similar to cholera.
In an interview with reporters, Velim MLA Cruz Silva emphasized on the gravity of the problems at Cutbona Jetty, pointing out that the fisheries department is assigning employees without the ability to make decisions. He claimed to have had conversations with the director and the minister after the dengue case outbreak.
Silva drew attention to the fact that the extended section of the jetty is still un-commissioned, and the minister ought to provide an explanation for why the jetty is not officially opened despite significant financial investment in its construction. Roland Martins told reporters that the fisheries department has not handled the jetty's responsibilities, as well as they ought to have. He clarified that there are two parts to the jetty—the old and the new one. If the new jetty is not structurally sound, it should be reported as a storage area, and suitable action should be taken to keep it from turning into a space for dumping.
