PORVORIM: Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho on Tuesday said that the Transport Department has written to the Cyber Crime Cell to take action against app-based taxi aggregator Uber for operating in Goa without permission.
Speaking to reporters ahead of the session, Godinho said the state government has taken action against Uber by writing to the Cyber Crime branch for allegedly illegally starting taxi operations.
“We have written to the Cyber Crime branch and have asked (Uber) how can such a big company start a business without taking formal permission?” Godinho said.
The Minister said that taxi operators send proposals to the state government, but latter has not taken any decision on it.
“Everyone wants to come to Goa to do business,” he added. Taxi operators in Goa have objected to the operations of Ola and Uber cabs.
The news regarding Uber being active for pickup and drop from Manohar International Airport (MIA) at Mopa has spread like wild fire.
However, the MIA Airport authorities rejected the news regarding Uber operating at the airport.
“We are currently not in a partnership with Uber or any of its associates. Please be aware of anyone claiming otherwise. We urge you to always check with relevant authorities for official confirmation,” the authorities tweeted.
