
VASCO: The two accused hailing from Bijar arrested on the charge of raping and murdering a five-year-old girl at Vaddem, Vasco have been remanded them in five days police custody by the the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Vasco.
The Vasco Police on Saturday arrested Murari Kumar, 24 and Upnesh Kumar, 22 both hailing from Bihar on the charge of raping and killing the girl at an under-construction building.
"Murari was a painter and Upnesh a mason . Both were working at the under-construction site," said South Goa SP Sunita Sawant.
“We interrogated all labourers who were working at the under-construction site and came across some leads and evidence which helped us zero down on two persons. Both the accused have confessed to have committed the crime,” Sawant said.
SP Sawant said as per the preliminary investigation, both the accused had been staying in Goa for the last one year and were working at the site before the victim’s family came from Bengal to Goa.
“There is no record of other crimes against the accused but during the course of investigation we realised that one of the accused had trespassed into the room of the victim and tried to touch her mother, a day before the incident occurred. The victim's mother had then raised an alarm. Her husband had informed this to the supervisor who was in the process of dealing with the matter. The accused were heavily drunk when they had trespassed into the room," Sawant said.
According to the police officer, there were other 16 workers living in the adjacent rooms which included 11 persons from Jharkhand and five persons from Bihar. The Vasco police have registered a case against both the accused under Sections 376 and 302 of IPC besides relevant sections of POCSO Act and Goa Children's Act.
