PONDA: The Usgao gram sabha chaired by Sarpanch Sangeeta Gaonkar discussed several issues concerning village, on Sunday. The meeting lasted till 3 pm. The gram sabha passed resolution that the panchayat take action against the migrants adopting surnames of Goans.
The gram sabha members demanded that panchayat should request the sub-registrar that incase any migrant residing in Usgao area applies for change in surname, then, the sub-registrar should inform the same to the panchayat, before registering the changed name.
Secondly, incase Usgao panchayat finds that a migrant has adopted the surname of Goans, then, it should file police complaint against the migrant concerned.
According to locals many migrants, settled in Usgao, have adopted the surnames of Goans in violation of the law in force in the State.
The locals also demanded action against illegal scrap yard and illegal houses constructed by migrants.
The locals also raised the garbage problem to which Sarpanch Sangeeta Gaonkar said that the panchayat is making effort to solve this issue by setting up a garbage disposal plant. “We have identified a suitable place for it,” he said.
The locals also demanded action against mobile towers set up close to houses in Usgao Tisk area. The locals demanded 80 percent jobs in industries at Usgao.
Ponda police team led by PI Mohan Gaude was present to maintain law and order.
