PANJIM: Utpal Parrikar, son of former Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, on Friday lashed out at the Panjim MLA Atanasio Babush Monserrate and charged that the claim made latter that 90 per cent of the Smart City work is complete was totally false.
Speaking to reporters after inspecting ongoing Smart City work in the city, Parrikar demanded that a proper deadline be given for completion of the roads.
“Give us a proper deadline stating when the road works are going to be completed. The contractors do not have proper technology for executing the work and I urge the chief minister that he holds review meeting every 15 days and take stock of the situation. Contractors must be taken to task for dilly-dallying with work,” he stated.
Parrikar said, “People from the city have been literally thrown into the pits. Many bridges would have been completed during the time which these smart city work has taken. The claim that 90 per cent of the work is complete is false. Work at many stretches is pending. There are big chambers along the roads which have been thrown open for vehicle movement and they are hazardous. If someone falls into them, then who will take the responsibility,” questioned Parrikar
He said, “The situation at Ribandar is such that students have to walk two kilometers to reach their schools. People told me that the local MLA has not visited them after assembly elections. Many roads are being re-dug after throwing them open."
