Vasco Damodar Saptah to be accorded State Festival status

VASCO: The famous Damodar Saptah festival, Vasco likely to be accorded State festival status by next year even as religious aspect of Damodar Bhajani Saptah concluded with Samapti rituals. 

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who visited the Damodar temple on the occasion of the 125th year of Damodar Bhajani Saptah festival on Sunday, said that Damodar Saptah festival was likely to get State festival status by next year.

Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar and Vasco MLA Krishna ‘Daji’ Salkar had demanded that Damodar Saptah be accorded the status of the State festival, Sawant said requesting them to follow up with the Directorate of Arts and Culture to give the festival the status of State festival by the next year, so that the annual Saptah event can be celebrated in a better way and on a grand scale attracting people from across the State to participate. 

After offering prayers and seeking the blessings of Lord Damodar, Sawant distributed bio-degradable bags to the vendors and flagged off ‘Har Ghar Tiranga.’

Meanwhile, the religious rituals of the akhand Damodar Bhajani Saptah concluded with the conducting of "Samapti" rituals and immersion of the Shreefal (coconut) anointed last year in the Arabian sea at Kharewado, on Sunday.

The devotees later returned thereby marking the conclusion of the 24-hour akhand Damodar Bhajani Saptah.
