
VASCO: The Mormugao Municipal Council addressed essential aspects like parking, fitment of CCTV cameras, traffic management and stall arrangements for the ensuing anuual saptah festival at Vasco which will commence from August 22.
Representatives of various government departments including traffic police attended the special meeting chaired by Mormugao Chairperson Girish Borkar. Indian Navy will also support Goa police for robust surveillance during the Saptah fair. With a vast gathering of Lord Damodar devotees expected, additional security measures include installation of 10 watch towers equipped with CCTV cameras.
After the meeting, Borkar said that special meeting discussed preparedness for this year’s 124the annual Saptah festival, while another meeting will also be convened within the next few days to finalise all the plans including smooth movement of traffic during the festival.
Borkar said that PWD engineers have been asked to repair the potholes while, the electricity department engineers have been asked to ensure that all the streetlights are repaired and made functional besides illumination and to ensure that there are no power outages during Saptah.
“We said that the Goa Shipyard Limited, Vasco, has been requested to provide mobile toilets and PWD to supply water to stalls. The municipality will handle timely garbage collection while the Vasco police will set up 10 watch towers monitored with CCTV cameras along the Swatantra Path,” Borkar said.
Borker said that measures will be taken to reduce use of plastic during the festival and that municipal inspectors have been instructed to impose heavy fines on those found using plastic bags.
