MARGAO: Raising concerns over the dredging of River Sal taking place near the Assolna-Chinchinim Bridge, the members at the Assolna gram sabha demanded that the panchayat bring this issue to the government’s attention for necessary action as they feared such activity will damage the structure’s foundation. The villagers demanded that signboards be installed near the Assolna-Cavelossim Bridge so that commuters are advised against using the internal village road and to use the bridge so that the residents are not inconvenienced.
The panchayat was criticised for the irregularity on its part in holding gram sabha meetings as per the official schedule. Gram sabha members also demanded to have a look at the copies of the reports sent by the Block Development Officer (BDO)’s observer for gram sabha meetings to verify their authenticity.
The locals demanded to know how much development works were taken up by the panchayat.
Savio Ferreira called for an inquiry on the payments made for the Children’s Park given the park’s present sub-standard condition.
There was also demand that the panchayat officials update themselves on the procedures required for villagers to update/modify their Aadhaar Cards.
The issue of the water spillage from fish laden vehicles on the roads was taken up again. The villagers demanded that the panchayat should do more than just writing to the Fisheries Department and to instead write to the Transport Department and District Collector so that this matter is resolved at the earliest in the interest of the public. There was also a discussion on the alleged encroachments in the village.
