
MARGAO: South Goa Member of Parliament (MP) Captain Viriato Fernandes attended the District Level Review Committee and District Consultative Committee meeting at the South Goa Collector’s office in Margao. The meeting was also attended by Deputy Collector Vinayak Chari, as well as representatives from various banks. This included Ashish Kumar, Regional Manager, State Bank of India (SBI) and Vijayamurthy, SBI Lead District Manager; Brenda Rodrigues, Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Manager; and Rupesh Bhamaikar, National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) District Development Manager (DDM), along with other bank controllers and government department representatives, also participated in the meeting.
The meeting was a quarterly review of the district’s performance, covering the period ending June 2024. “In this meeting, we discussed the banks’ performance and achievements against the targets allocated to them for this financial year, and a disbursement of Rs 1,672 crore was made as of June,” said Fernandes.
The MP advised the bankers to prioritise lending towards the upliftment of the poorer and weaker sections of society, with a focus on increasing lending to self-help groups (SHGs).
The discussion was aimed at improving the outreach of banks to the people, especially members of the weaker sections, and ensuring that the financial services are accessible and beneficial to all segments of the population.
