SANGUEM: The Quepem Taluka Enforcement Squad conducted surprise inspection on Friday and booked 11 cases for violation of Section 4 of Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act 2003 (COTPA) and recovered fines of Rs 2,200 mainly from the grocery shops and bars & restaurants in Quepem.
A nationalised bank was also issued a challaned for violation of Section 4 of COTPA which requires the display of the mandatory ‘no smoking’ signage. The squad found the violation in grocery shops and restaurants registered with the Directorate of Food & Drug Administration and Bars licensed by the Excise Department.
The same will be reported to the South Goa District Collector at the next quarterly review meeting.
The squad was led by Joint Mamlatdar, Quepem, Jeetendra Bugde, GOACAN Secretary Lorna Fernandes and was accompanied by Talathi Yogesh Phaldesai Talathi, Circle Inspector Anjali T Naique, Sanitary Inspector PHC Quepem Jaikumar Naik, GOACAN volunteer Cipriana Fernandes and constable Kapil Raikar.
