MARGAO: Savio Dias, a citizen of Mandel, Margao on Monday urged the South Goa Collector office to pass an order at the earliest with regard to nuisance created at the marketplace, stating that the matter is not only relevant to the South Goa Planning Authority's (SGPDA) wholesale fish market but also with the retail fish market.
"I filed a revision petition. And on Monday I filed my reply to SGPDA's submission and have asked the Deputy Collector to hear and dispose of the matter with order," said Savio.
He has also mentioned that in 2015, the then Deputy Collector and SDM Panchwadkar without any order disposed off the above matter only because SGPDA gave a written undertaking to solve public problems, and till now nothing implemented by Margao municipality or SGPDA.
"The applicant wishes to submit that this matter is not only relevant to the SGPDA Wholesale Fish Margao Market but also with the SGPDA Retail Margao Market. It is very disappointing that the SGPDA is unable to maintain the market clean and provide good service to the general public. Issues like footpath encroachments, blockage of pathways, sanitation, open and clogged drains, treatment of wastewaters, no drinking water or water to clean, etc are long pending issues at the SGPDA retail Margao Market," he said.
He further said that with the issue of Formalin, the duty of the SGPDA and the MMC is that goods sold are not harmful to the general public or they do not preserve beyond the limit with chemicals like formalin.
"Four years have passed and there are no signs of any Laboratory to test this or any other products.  The testing laboratory by the Health Department on the third floor of the Old Collectorate Building, Margao which is completed two years back is yet to be inaugurated," said Savio.
