West Bengal native arrested in Nagpur for alleged rape at Assagao
PANJIM: The Anjuna police arrested a West Bengal native on Friday, for allegedly raping a woman employee on December 2023. The accused was absconding after committing the offence. The police could not trace him at his native West Bengal address and he was finally traced at Nagpur, Maharashtra by a Goa police team.
The victim in a complaint filed at the Anjuna police station on Janua, stating that the accused Mainul Hasan Chowdhury, who was her manager, had forceful sexual intercourse with the complainant on several occasions at TNK, Assagao on the false pretext of marriage and thus committed rape. After the commission of the crime, the fled and was absconding.
The police later traced the accused in Nagpur Maharashtra and a team was led by PSI Swapnil Naik, police constables Abhishek Kasar, Sudhir Sawant of Anjuna Police Station and arrested him.
The accused has been remanded to three days police custody. Further investigation is in progress with LPSI Sneha Sawal under the supervision of PI Prashal Dessai. The accused has been arrested under section 376 of IPC.
