PANJIM: The IPSDL had through the Advocate General submitted before the High Court that the Smart City road works will be completed by March 31, 2025. Herald Media has been tracking the incomplete works with a countdown. With just three days to go We asked residents of Panjim whether they think that the road works will be completed by March 31. Here are the responses…….
It is highly impossible to complete the tasks within three days with the present heat wave. And many other roads are left incomplete. The debris of the dug up roads is still lying around. Such deadlines have been given before by Smart City mission and not complied with. We are used to that. They are totally misleading the people of Panjim, misleading the courts and they are doing works without any accountability, without any responsibility and without any quality of work. There are many roads which are incomplete. For instance – the road in front of Don Bosco High School, in front of the Panjim Municipal Market. At the pace the work is going on is very slow, hardly any labour is put. Hopefully, at least before the monsoons the works will be complete.

More than anything else, we all have been talking about how terrible the works of the Smart City have been. And asking them to complete the works fast will be again a terrible things because the work is so slipshod, the work is in a terrible state. I’ve seen cement not being cured, I’ve seen tremendous nonsense taking place. In fact the bosses of Smart City should resign, because they are doing a disservice to the country and I don’t know why. I know of them are good people, but at whose behest are they doing such slipshod work. They should be pulled up criminally. It’s not a joke that our hard earned money is being spent on something like this. I hope that in the next elections, the people in power are shown their place and thrown out.

Will the over Smart City of Panjim keep their deadline of March 31, 2025? They may by hook or by crook. But this constant digging, breaking and redoing which is being done, looks like a bombed zone. Last year too a deadline was given and work was done. But after the rains, what was repaired was dug up again. They could not find the drains. They put the public money in the drains. Neither the contractor nor the planners are bothered, because it is not their money which is going into the drains. Just like the KTC has bought buses and introduced shuttle services, they should also purchase boats to get ready for the rains.
