PANJIM: The 10th International Yoga Day was celebrated across the State with hundreds of enthusiasts including Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai participated in the sessions, on Friday.
The theme of International Yoga Day 2024 was ‘Yoga for Self and Society’.
Governor Pillai along with the officials and staff members of Raj Bhavan Goa performed yoga at Old Durbar Hall, Raj Bhavan.
The Governor performed various forms of yoga such as Asanaas, pranayam, mudras and dhyan offering a comprehensive approach to physical and mental well-being, thus enhancing overall quality of life.
The participants of yoga were guided by Sriraj Shelar, an experienced yoga instructor attached to Shree Datta Padmanabh Peeth Goa.
Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar urged the people to practice yoga for an overall well-being and striking a balance in all aspects of life.
Participating in the International Yoga Day celebration at Sada, he said that the day is an occasion that underscores the universal appeal and profound benefits of yoga.
He emphasised the importance of integrating yoga into daily life.
“Yoga is the best way for fitness, physical, and mental health. People must make maximum use of yoga to strike a balance in all aspects of life, Amonkar said.
The Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) organised a yoga event at its berth on the vessel ‘ECOMAR’ and included crew members on board and students from the port-run Deep Vihar Higher Secondary School.
Damodar Govekar from Goa State Yoga Academy was the yoga guru during the session. Few students from the Academy demonstrated various yoga exercises.
A yoga session was also organised at ‘SAARASI’, Main Administrative Building premises of MPA. It was attended by MPA Chiarman Dr N Vinodkumar, IPoS, Deputy Chairperson Vinayaka Rao, along with HoDs, senior officials, port employees, CISF personnel and students.
Forest Minister Vishwajit Rane, who participated in the event, said, “It was a privilege to celebrate the 10th International Yoga Day with children with special needs, in alignment with the vision of PM Narendra Modi. We discussed the profound importance of yoga in our daily lives and how it can be seamlessly integrated into our routines for better physical and mental well-being. With its ancient roots and holistic benefits, yoga promotes balance, flexibility and mindfulness, making it an invaluable practice for everyone, especially children with special needs.”
Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte participated in the international Yoga Day function organised at the Socorro Panchayat hall, Porvorim.
Pernem police sub-division office organised a yoga session to celebrate International Yoga Day.
Pernem SDPO Jivba Dalvi emphasised on the benefits of yoga during the session. All the police inspectors of Pernem Police Station, Mopa Airport Police Station and Mandrem Police Station along with Pernem Traffic Cell PI Vishwajit Chodankar and Mopa Traffic Cell PI Mahesh Kerkar were present.
The programme was organised in assistance with Sadguru Yog Gurukul during which a total of 123 police staff participated in it along with students of schools from Pernem taluka. Yoga teacher Kishore Kinlekar conducted the session.
