‘Sacred Flora of Goa’, book by Rajendra Kerkar launched

PANJIM: Member Secretary of Goa State Biodiversity Board Pradeep Sarmokadam on Monday released a book “Sacred Flora of Goa” authored by noted environmentalist Rajendra Kerkar at a function organised by Vivekanand Environment Awareness Brigade, Keri at the Art Gallery, Photo Journalist Association of Goa office, Panjim. 

On the occasion, NABARD Deputy General Manager Vijay Deshpande and Kerkar were present. 

Speaking on the occasion, Sarmokadam praised Kerkar for writing books on environment and ecology. He said that Kerkar’s work is voluntary and he is dedicated to ecology. He said that in the past locations were based on trees and though we had no laws, the people preserved ecology. He said that the book is a great compilation of documentation and we need for areas for conservation. 

Deshpande in his address said that environment awareness is important for all. He said that besides trees, mangroves are also sacred because it is protecting species and wished all the success to Kerkar in his future endeavour.

Kerkar said that he took a decision to write his fifth book during Cobid-19 pandemic. He said that in his all books he has focussed on aspects of environment and that he consider environment as oxygen for him. He gave details of tall towering trees in some of the villages and stressed on protecting forest trees. He cautioned that imbalances in nature if any, will create problems to the people.

Kerkar also disclosed that he will soon release his second volume of `Sacred Flora of Goa’ and that he is also working on writing the `Sacred Growth of Goa.’
