Imbalance of sex-ratio

Published on
The sex ratio of our nation speaks that there are more boys and less girls in the country. Kerala is the best state to have a good sex ratio. It has 1084 females per 1000 males. Haryana suffers from the lowest sex ratio. It has 877 females per 1000 males. Total population of Goa as per 2011 census is 1,458,545 of which male and female are 739,140 and 719,405 respectively. Sex ratio varies from region to region. The sex ratio of India is 940 females per 1000 males.
There are many causes that affect the sex-ratio in the country as given below. Society believes that birth of a boy is a mask of prestige and a girl a burden as they have to give dowry to the boy who marries her. Most people cannot resist the greed of dowry. In spite of the Anti-Dowry Act and the enhancement of punishment, the bitter truth is that the giving and taking of Dowry is still very widely practiced in the country; we live in a dowry-dominated world. Therefore, woman, submits herself to kill the female foetus thinking that a woman has the right to decide the fate of an unborn child.
I have read, that according to Hindu myth, “a deceased person’s soul is liberated only when the son performs the last rites. This myth has influenced the minds of many people. Therefore, they desire to have a male child; so, they test the sex of the unborn child and annihilate if it happens to be a girl.
Besides these reason that reduce the sex-ratio, there are many other roots that affect the sex ratio, such as --- Poverty causing malnutrition and neglect ; rape or incest due to which many cannot face the discrimination suffered by single mothers, all this leads to infanticide. Thus, girls are getting killed, at the dawn of their life; either in the womb or in the cradle.
If this trend continues, females will be totally be wiped off from the face of the earth. If women are eliminated there will be only men left in the world; eventually, men also will be pressed out from earth as there would be no procreation.
If that happens, some say, “Perhaps God will take another rib of Adam --- the modern man, and create a better woman to give continuity to His world.” Others say, “Perhaps God may not do it.”
No matter what people speculate, our Government has taken measures to improve sex ratio by prohibition of sex screening and selective abortion; if people find that the unborn child is a female, they nip it in the foetal bud.
Then, there are schemes to combat and protect the girl child, like, depositing some amount in the account of every new born girl along with the struggling slogan “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” and “Aapki Beti, Hamari Beti.”
Our Pope Francis, supports adoption as a solution to cases of unintended pregnancy which otherwise ends up in abortion. Adoption is an act of love; it is a gift to someone who has none. Abortion is the taking of an innocent human life and therefore, a violation of the fifth commandment. Pope Francis condemns abortion,
Let us stop committing the crime of female unborn child.
The child has the right to be conceived, carried in the womb,
The devil in the man impels and compels women to commit this sin of female foeticide.
