MAPUSA: Goan Football Club got the better of Sporting Clube de Goa 2-0 to win the GFA U-20 Taca Goa League title, played at Duler Stadium, here on Thursday.
After a thrilling first session which saw Sporting being reduced to ten men it was Goan FC who held their nerves to score both the goals in the second half through Leszy Rebello and Vasim Inamdhar.
Young Gaurs started the proceedings brightly and in the 7th minute Bryce Miranda`s firm grounder just missed the target by a whisker.
Sporting hit back with a quick counter attack when Delton Colaco busted into the penalty box and let go a rasping left footed shot which was brilliantly pushed out for a corner by Antonio Da Silva.
In the 21st minute, Sporting suffered a major setback when Trejoy Dias was flashed direct red card by the referee Tejas Nagvekar for a dangerous tackle on Sarineo Fernandes.
The sending off changed the entire complexion of the match as Goan FC seized the numerical advantage and nearly found the opening goal in the 40th minute, but Sarineo Fernandes header from a free-kick delivered by Sezwin Fernandes, which was nearly creeping into the net was somehow kept out for a corner by a full stretched Sporting keeper Akshat Hadkonkar.
In the closing minutes of the first half, Sporting`s Dattaraj Gaonkar saw his header go agonizingly wide of the post from a cross send in by Delton Colaco.
Changing end, Delton Colaco`s was unlucky to see his cracking goal bound shot in the 60th minute being well kept out by a diving Goan FC keeper Antonio DaSilva for a corner after being found by skipper Stendly Fernandes with an incisive pass.
Goan FC after all the probing, finally found the net in the 75th minute when Leszy Rebello directed Sezwin Fernandes curling corner kick into the net with a firm header, 1-0
Trailing by a goal Sporting pushed more men forward but Vasim Inamdhar sealed the title for Goan FC in the 91st minute, who on receiving a pass from Joybert Almeida positioned himself and slammed the ball into the net, 2-0.
Sporting Clube de Goa coach Savio Vaz was sent off from the technical area in the 90th minute with instance from the fourth official.
“It’s has been a good season for Goan FC this year. I congratulate the team and the staff for the success. The team played well throughout the tournament and gave their best.
