Illegal garbage dumping along the road at Ganeshpuri, Mapusa was busted by the locals on Sunday. The perpetrators were seen dumping loads of dry plywood waste from the mini-tempo vehicle. Upon noticing the act, the locals immediately called the police and a probe was initiated into the matter.
On Sunday morning, the locals travelling on the Ganeshpuri road at Mapusa saw some people throwing chunks of dry wood waste along the road. The locals caught them red-handed and immediately called the police. As per the perpetrators, they were instructed by their owner to throw the garbage.
A local who caught the incident happening stated, “I was heading towards Mapusa and on the way I saw the mini tempo vehicle stationed here. The vehicle was carrying loads of dry waste. While dumping the waste, I caught them red-handed. Despite having house-to-house waste collection, people are still opting to throw the garbage in open areas.”
As per the locals, a Rajasthan native working in Goa had recently finished his plywood job nearby and ordered his workers to dump the waste near a roadside at Ganeshpuri. The locals immediately called the police and complained about the incident. They also called the Sarpanch and informed about the same. The locals urged the police and the village panchayat to impose a hefty fine on the owner.
